Okay so I admit it. I’m officially one of those parents who takes way too many photos of their kids. But this session actually had a purpose. Sam is getting ready to send out Christmas cards and wanted a picture of Emmy to include with the cards going out to family. It just so happened that Emmy had recently received a Christmas outfit as a gift from her grandparents so we decided instead of choosing a photo from the millions that we already had why not get her dressed up and take some new shots.

Only one problem…her new Christmas outfit is still just a bit too big for her and seeing her swimming around in the top while her pants kept falling to her ankles didn’t quite provide the level of cuteness that I was looking for. So off came the top and on went a big paper clip to cinch her pants snugly around her waist.  Add the candy-cane striped headband complete with a bow and BOOM… Champion of Cuteness!

To maintain a small element of surprise I haven’t included the photo that we chose to send out with our Christmas cards in this post. But don’t feel like you’re missing out by not getting to see it here. It was a pretty safe and standard composition. You know, the photo that the grandparents will like. My personal favorites are the last two from the bottom. Makes me smile big every time I look at either of them.

Why those two? It’s what I love most about photography. Those moments that seem so insignificant and hardly worth noticing at the time, which are now gone forever, are captured in a photograph that my family and I can look back on for the rest of our lives. Each time igniting that feeling, that smile, and that memory of a moment that would otherwise be so easily forgotten. Enjoy the images…
